Social sweepers unswervingly assure us of the terrain our curiosity should abide by. // Social sweepers condition us to believe it’s an independent choice to submit to their ideas.
Social sweepers don’t tolerate defiance, but thrive off compliance. // Social sweepers simultaneously infect and quarantine us. // Social sweeper suppress us.
White Wash is a short contemporary dance work that was driven by the aesthetic of an object informing a concept or narrative. Working collaboratively alongside Madeline Denholm, the piece revealed to concern itself of issues surrounding the unwillingness (or impossibility) to maintain individual thought within society.
White Wash explores the assimilation that occurs by ‘social sweeping’. It’s about minds being quarantined and the helplessness in resisting this action. It’s about protecting your mind.
This is the first work I created since returning to dance from my studies in architecture, and it was strikingly evident as to how my design background will be informing my choreographic choices as a dancer. Performed by Madeline, Anika, Tammy and I in 2017.
